Christmas Is Coming...

Friday, 12 December 2014

The snow is pilling up, the mercury is falling down (don’t worry I don’t actually own a mercury thermometer) and everything relating to Christmas has arrived! Well, aside from Christmas itself of course.

Now that I’m finished with my exams (Wahoo!) I feel like finally start enjoying all that this season has to offer. Like baking holiday cookies (because who really only bakes cookies at Christmas?), decorating and visiting family.

I love all the decorations that go up this time of year. Mostly because I’m a magpie and seeing all the twinkling lights and the snow sparkling in the sun or under streetlights just makes me happy.

This year I bought a little fake Christmas tree to put up in my apartment. It’s just the right size and the lights were already wrapped around it so it was a breeze to set up. I love it! (by the way if the seemingly floating fire in the background of my picture is worrying you don’t worry it is only the fireplace channel on my TV. Yup just my attempt at making it look cozy :) )

However, by far my favourite thing about this time of year is watching everyone come back together again. I flew home today and during my trip I over heard a lot of conversations of people explaining that they had x amount of time off work and that they where on there way to see their family and how excited they were.

While waiting for my luggage at the carrousel I recognized a lady that had been on my flight, lets call her Mary ;) . I remembered that I had seen her as I was getting off the plane asking the stewardesses if they had any stickers and they told her that they did not but told her where she may be able to find them. Well, while I was waiting another lady with young (around 3 or 4 y/o) twin boys approached Mary. Mary’s face light up and, after giving each boy a big hug, she pulled out two stickers, one for each of them. I cannot tell you how much witnessing this warmed my heart. I know it was such a simple little thing but seeing how happy Marry was to see these little boys made me so excited for the holidays and reminded me what this time of year is all about :) .

What are your favourite things about this time of year?

4 Ways To Get Into The Halloween Spirit

Monday, 27 October 2014

With Halloween just around the corner I thought it would be fun to share some of my favourite ways to get into the Halloween Spirit :)

1. Buy some Halloween candy!
Nothing says Halloween quite like miniature chocolate bars and candy packages. I have to say that this is probably one the best parts of Halloween in my opinion! And will sure get you reminiscing about your trick or treating glory days ha-ha :)

2. Immerse your self in a spooky story
Do you have a favourite scary TV show...Vampire Diaries or Murdoch Mysteries perhaps?
Maybe a scary movie is more your thing, or maybe a more light hearted favourite Halloween special from your childhood like Halloween Town?
And what about some spooky books? You know like Harry Potter, Dracula or Frankenstein?
Personally, I've been loving watching episodes of Pretty Little Liars off ITunes. I think this show is just the right amount of scary/suspenseful for me (I get spooked pretty easily).
Getting into a spooky story will definitely send those chills racing up your spine and get you in the Halloween spirt.

3. Pick out a costume
Even if your not planning to dress up it’s fun just to look right?
I think it would be loads of fun to be an inflatable angry bird or dress up as a minion but you can never go wrong as a princess or fairy!

4. Decorate your space
One of the most funnest and easiest things to do in my opinion is add some festive touches here and there. I recently purchased these two little plastic pumpkins and I love them to death! (pun not originally intended but now it most definitely is!)

What are something of the things you enjoy doing around Halloween?

DIY Garland / Adding A Pop Of Colour

Wednesday, 22 October 2014

I’ve recently moved into a new place that I love and I am so excited! I’ve really been enjoying looking around for furniture and picking out cute pieces to make the place look nice and homey.

I’ve also been scouring the web for some design ideas, (of course!) and I keep coming across the same tip which goes something along the lines of either “don’t buy all your furniture in the same place or else your home will look like a showroom” or “if you want your home to look lived in you should collect pieces over time.”

Striving to make this place feel like home I’ve definitely been doing my best to follow these suggestions. However, slowly collecting everything has left me with these big bare white walls that are starving for some colour.

Until now!

Enough was enough and I decided to make this DIY garland. I learned how to make this way back when I was in elementary school so it’s obviously supper simple and easy to make. You can also pick any colours you like so it can work in any space. The best part is you probably already have all this stuff lying around your house (honestly!).

With out further ado, on to the DIY instructions!

-construction paper
-tape, glue or a stapler

Step 1:
Cut the construction paper into long strips.

Step 2:
Place a piece of tape on one end of a strip, then bend the stripe to form a loop and attach the two ends with the tape.

Step 3:
Slide a second strip through the center of the loop you created in Step 2. Then, follow Step 2 to make the second strip into a loop.

Step 4:
Repeat Step 3 until your garland reaches your desired length.

Step 5:
Hang your garland up and enjoy your new decoration!

In The Nude- Lipstick Love

Wednesday, 6 August 2014

Okay questionable titles aside...

Rarely do I pop into a drugstore and miss the makeup aisle. On a recent trip down arguably one of my favourite aisles, I spotted the L’oreal Collection Privee, which includes beauty products designed by celebrities. I decided that my skin tone was most similar to  that of the fair Julianne Moore’s (even though I do not look anything like her haha!). I picked up her lipstick appropriately named  Julianne’s Nude.

It wasn’t until I got home that I realized just how much I loved this shade. I have never been a huge fan of nude lipsticks because I could never find one that didn’t wash me out or just suited me in general. Now I find myself reaching for this nude on an almost daily basis. I am obsessed!

Since this day I have been on the hunt for more like it. I have now added the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in the shade Pink In The Afternoon which is a similar but more pink-less nude colour.

I know that I’m definitely missing some real lipstick gems so if you have any suggestions please let me know!

FOTD- Face Of The Day

Tuesday, 5 August 2014

I recently spent a lovely weekend away and a got ride back home with my friend. As soon as I got home all I wanted to do was hop in the shower. Once I was all nice and clean I was ready to put my makeup on, but to my horror I realized that I had left my makeup bag in my friend’s car!

Being a firm believe in the saying “there’s always a silver lining,” I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to “shop my stash”. I tried to do a bit of a different look then I would normally go for and turn it into a FOTD. I didn’t end up using many products, so the look is quite wareable although the colours are darker that what I would normally use.

Lancome Le Crayon Khol- Black Coffee
Lancome Eye Shadow- Delicate Lace
Lancome Eye Shadow- Smoldering Cocoa
Covergirl Lashblast Fusion Water Resistant Mascara- Black Brown

Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate Lipstick- 08

NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Liquid Foundation- 01 Ivory
Purminerals Mineral Glow

and here’s the part where I fail at taking selfies and look like two completely different people haha!

My Week In Manicures

Sunday, 3 August 2014

For those who may not know I love to paint my nails. I find that a fresh coat of polish can be an instant mood booster and nothing feels better than finding the perfect shade to suit your mood. I believe that the colour I choose to paint my nails can reveal a lot about how I’m feeling (cheesy I know), so with that in mind I thought it would be interesting to share my latest nail polish picks.

I realize that (bright colours aside)  my nails would be considered fairly conservative and boring, but I’m working on that. Slow and steady wins the race….at least that’s what they told me…..

Revlon Nail Enamel- 580 Eclectic

Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss- 145 Lav-endure

Revlon Nail Enamel- 280 Bubbly

Essie Nail Lacquer- Cocktail Bling
