Review: Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Polish

Sunday, 23 March 2014

I am in love with the colour of the Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant nail polish in Lav-endure. This was my first time trying any Covergirl nail polish so I decided I would do a little review and share my experiences. :)

Biggest Pro: The opacity of this product is great. I only had to apply two coats. However, I could have gotten away with one coat. Not only is the colour “quality” good but the colour itself is beautiful and right on trend this spring!

Biggest Con: The time it takes to dry. It honestly felt like this product took five hours to dry. It stayed in that half dry mushy stage for so long that if I accidentally bumped my nail the polish would smudge. (okay maybe five hours is a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point ;) )

Application: As you can tell from the picture the lid is quite large and I was worried that trying to maneuver it while applying the nail polish would be a challenge. Fortunately I didn’t run into any issues with the lid. The only problem was the consistency of the polish. It’s very tacky and it took some getting used to.

Performance: The performance of this polish was pretty standard. I could wear it for 4-6 days, depending on what I was doing, before it started to chip.

Packaging: I really like the packaging on this product. It’s very neat and simple. However, it does look a bit like a knockoff of the Chanel Le Vernis nail polish packaging.

And know for the big question…
Would I repurchase?
Maybe...the drying time for me was a bit much to put up with...but if I decided to have a lazy day and painted my nails in the morning then I am sure it would be fine. I think I would be most likely to repurchase if they came out with a colour that I absolutely fell in love with (so I may repurchase Lav-endure because it is one of the best purple shades I have come across :) )

What is your favourite spring polish? If you have ever tried one the Covergirl nail polishes let me know what you think!

What's In My Travel Makeup Bag?

Monday, 17 March 2014

Hey everyone I am on vacation! Where I'm from the weather is still terrible so I am extra grateful for the beautiful weather I have had so far :)

Seeing as I am on vacation I thought it might be fun to do a What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag post!

1. Lise Watier Portfolio Correcteurs
2. Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder Powder
3. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters in (left to right): Wild Watermelon, Juicy Papaya, Sorbet.
4. Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Rosy Nude
5. Arbonne Makeup Primer
6. Joe Fresh Duo Concealer in Light
7. Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain
8. Covergirl Lashblast Fusion Water Resistant Mascara in Black
9. Covergirl Clump Crusher by Lashblast Mascara in Black Brown

As you can probably tell when I am on vacation/travelling in general, I prefer to keep my makeup routine fairly simple and easy. For me it’s all about improving the look of my skin and playing up my lashes and lips.

What do you need to have in your travel makeup bag? Comment letting me know!

Would You Rather Beauty Edition pt.2

Friday, 14 March 2014

This is part 2 of my Would You Rather Beauty Edition Tag. To read part one click here.
For part 2 I am doing the version I found on Obey Ray. :)

1. Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice makeup or nice hair and no makeup?
Messy hair and nice makeup for sure!

2. Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?

Shave my eyebrows...I think I could try to somehow pencil in some eyebrows but for me there is no faking lashes!

4. Would you rather wear the  lip gloss/lip liner look or an 80s perm?
Lip gloss/lip liner long as I could make it look subtle haha :)

5. Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?
Overdone blush...I feel like this would fade/become way less noticeable sooner than a foundation line.

6. Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or biker shorts in public?
Biker shorts...I feel like I pull off more of the sportier look ;)

7. Would you rather have a bad orangey spray tan or really weird tan lines that can’t be covered?
Really weird tan lines that can’t be covered...I would feel too self-conscious with an orangey spray tan because I would think that other people would think that I think it looks good :(

8. Would your rather have a bad haircut or bad hair colour?
Bad hair colour...If I was allowed to go the salon and change it, if not bad hair cut.

9. Would you rather have YouTube or Twitter taken away forever?
Twitter...although, I'm only on twitter (@emmawblogs), there are way too many youtubers/videos I would miss.

10. Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?
Using makeup core beauty products like concealer and foundation I can apply with my fingers and  I could get used to cream blushes but I could never replace mascara haha :)

I hope you enjoyed reading through my last time I tag anyone who might want to do this tag (it’s really fun!) and let me know if you decide to so I can check it out

Would You Rather Beauty Edition pt.1

Tuesday, 11 March 2014

I have seen a couple of different versions of this tag floating around and have come across two that I like. Seeing as I am terrible at making up my mind I decided to make this a two part tag!

Today I will be doing the version on willsingformakeup here.

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?

Lose all my palettes and eyeshadows…I would feel like my look would be incomplete without mascara!

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Never be able to cut it again...I have had long hair and short hair and short definitely did not suit me. Also I'm not sure why but I feel like it would stop growing at a certain length, right?

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
Pink...I love coral and I think it’s so pretty but if I'm being honest with myself pink looks better with my skin tone.

4. If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?
If I could only spend it on makeup or clothes I would buy makeup. I feel like I could by so much more make up than clothes with $1000. Also I've a harder time letting my self buy expensive makeup over expensive clothes (I think it's because clothes are more of a necessity and expensive ones tend to last longer). So spending the money on makeup would be a nice treat. :)
5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?
Lipstick as eyeliner... I feel like it would be a lot easier to apply and I could find like a brown shade of lipstick.

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
Sephora for sure...I like the variety and the opportunity to try different brands :)

7. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
Winter clothes in the Summer…I have to wear a heavy coat in the winter regardless of how warm my clothes are…so I would basically just be wearing jeans and a shirt which wouldn’t be to bad.

8. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Bright/light nails...I don't think I could pull off dark nails in the middle of summer.

9.  Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?
My favourite lip product...As I said earlier my look would not be complete without mascara :)

10. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
Ponytail...I love messy buns but I can never figure out how to get them just right...I know that sounds really weird as they are meant to be messy haha.

11. Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
Never paint my nails…As much as I love nail polish I feel that lip gloss is more important to finishing off a look.

12. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?
Sharpie them in...I would look like an Alien without at least something there!

13. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
Nail polish...Make up does so much more for me :)

I had so much fun doing this tag. I tag everyone...let me know if you do it so I can see your answers!

Haul: Spring Nail Polishes

Sunday, 9 March 2014

Given my last post it's probably fairly obvious that I have been swept away by Spring. So it may not come as a surprise that I could not resist picking up these polishes. Too me these are the  quintessential  Spring colours and I can not wait to try them out.

From Left To Right: Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant polish in Lav-endure, Revlon Top Speed Polish in Jaded, Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant polish in Coral Silk. (sorry for the absolutely horrendous picture quality, I am not in my usual set up.)

I picked these up a couple of weeks ago. I had already tried another Revlon Top Speed nail polish (which I liked and reviewed here) but I had never tried any Covergirl polishes before, despite the fact that I have been eyeing them for a while. I will likely have a review of them up soon.
If you have ever tried them I would love to hear what you think of them!

P.S. Please don’t forget to vote on what to name the challenge week in April!

Spring :)

Friday, 7 March 2014
On my walk today I could feel that Spring was (finally) in the air!

EmmasBeginning Spring

EmmasBeginning Fresh Flowers

I love going for walks in the Spring. I find watching the trees bloom and flowers blossom so magical. This season always brings with it a sense of rejuvenation and rebirth which is so uplifting. Today was the perfect way to end my week of March Madness. I had so much fun with all the post :) It definitely put me in the blogging mood and kept my momentum going. However, just because it’s over doesn’t mean I am ;). I will be going back to more of my regular posting schedule starting tomorrow (roughly 3x per weeks). I hope you have enjoyed March Madness as much as I have and that the rest of March will be fantastic for all of us!

What are you most looking forward to this march?

P.S. The poll for April’s challenge week is now up on the left, so don’t forget to vote!

Stila In The Light Review

Thursday, 6 March 2014

I hope you are all having a lovely week. It’s Thursday today... my favourite day of the week because I know tomorrow is Friday! For today’s March Madness post I will be reviewing the Stila In The Light pallet (If title hasn’t already given it away :) )!

Stila In The Light Review

What I think:
This pallet is great because you can create day and night looks. The eyeshadows are well pigmented and have good staying power. The pallet also includes a full sized Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in the colour Damsel which is exclusive to this pallet.

What this pallet includes:
Ten eyeshadows-
1. bare
2. kitten
3. bliss
4. bubbly
5. gilded gold
6. luster
7. sunset
8. sandstone
9. night sky
10. ebony

Who Would I Recommend This Too:
This palette is great for more or less anyone. The only person I think I wouldn’t recommend it to would be someone looking for a palette with bright colours or a less neutral look.

What Scares You?

Wednesday, 5 March 2014
This is a bit of a different, more personal, post today. I have decided to share with you one of my fears...flying. Well actually it is probably more of a fear of heights.

EmmasBeginning What Scares You? #fear #flying

I have had a fear of heights ever since I can remember. The summer camp I went to as a child had a high ropes course and I remember climbing up the ladder of one of the elements (that’s what they called one the high ropes activities) stopping part way up and crying until they let me climb back down the ladder. Embarrassing to say the least.

The first time I was actually old enough to remember going on a plane I was so scared I almost didn’t go on.

Unfortunately their are people who suffer far worse than I do.

Thankfully over the years I have been able to push myself to climb a bit higher or relax before getting on a flight. I can now say that my fear of flying has dwindled to just a knot in my stomach.

Although a fear of heights has not been my biggest challenge in life, knowing that I have been able to become much more comfortable with it has been a huge inspiration to me. Whenever I face something challenging I think about this and it reminds me that I can persevere and get through it.

Little things, like this, in life can hold you back from doing the things you want to do, like going on rollercoasters with friends. But by pushing yourself to overcome your little fears it can help you overcome your big ones. That’s why this week I have decided to challenge you to do one thing that scares you, like calling up an old friend or reach the top of a rock climbing wall (of course don’t do anything dangerous!)

Alternate Spring Polish

Tuesday, 4 March 2014

Everyone seems to be falling back in love with all the pastel pinks, blues, greens and purples of Springs past. However, if you haven’t been bit by the love bug (or you are just looking to shake things up a bit)  this year don’t fret I am here to share my favourite alternative to all the pastel polishes...the Revlon (suprise, suprise) Nail Enamel in Teak Rose!

If asked to describe this polish I would say it’s a dusty rose colour, absolutely gorgeous and oh so chic.

Even though I have introduced this colour as an alternate to pastels for Spring, I believe this colour would look fab any time of the year :)

Forever 21 Haul

Monday, 3 March 2014

Not to long ago I had a “Mother Daughter day”. We had a lovely time. We went shopping early in the morning just when the shops opened so that we could avoid the crowds. Then we headed off to the theatre to see an inspiring performance :)

From the title of this post you can probably guess one of the stores we visited. Forever 21! This was not my first time going to Forever 21. However, I am 90% sure it is the first time I have purchased anything from them as normally the shop is very crowded, so I do not spend very much time in it. So going as soon as they opened was the perfect opportunity for me to do some shopping :)

As spring is fast approaching I thought it would be appropriate to purchase some spring/summer dresses (finally!)
EmmasBeginning Forever 21 Haul

I love the colour of this dress. It's one of those dresses that's perfect for spinning around in :)

I think lace is so pretty for spring/summer.

This dress makes me think I should at the beach or on a boat! The navy blue and white strips are definitely very nautical :)

Have you started shopping for your spring/summer wardrobe? What are your favourite trends for the upcoming season?
